Nashville Arts Magazine review of Girl With a Scar (previous series)
“Children show scars like medals. Lovers use them as secrets to reveal. A scar is what happens when the word is made flesh.”
― Leonard Cohen, The Favorite Game
“There is something beautiful about all scars of whatever nature. A scar means the hurt is over, the wound is closed and healed, done with.”
― Harry Crews
In life, we start over every second. A scar reminds us of what we’ve been, how we’ve changed, and how we’ve started over. Reborn, these noble marks are beautiful imperfections carved into our beings that chronicle a time of crisis, courage, and survival.
Scars toughen us, yet also allow the light to penetrate, come through and ultimately shine. Healing comes with this light. Scars speak many languages and cross over human and spiritual differences. We are all scarred, yet only some of us wear our wounds where others can see them. And sometimes this is hard to do.
This series depicts the healing of one of these wounded. It is an interpretation of uplifting beauty, courageous strength, and a salute to our unique will to survive.
